To ask the Scottish Government what role spoken language interpreters have been required to take on in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, and what difficulties they have experienced in providing support for those who need it.
Answer
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scottish Government has engaged with a range of race equality organisations and specifically convened the Expert Reference Group on Covid-19 and Ethnicity. Issues in relation to spoken language interpreters have not been raised as a significant issue within these discussions. However, it is for individual public bodies to arrange the provision of spoken language interpreters and as such this information is not held centrally.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on progress with the COVID-19 vaccination programme since March 2021, including a potential future COVID-19 booster vaccination programme.
Answer
I am pleased to announce our second update to the Covid-19 Vaccines Deployment Plan will be published later today.
The Plan reflects on our progress since March 2021 and explains how our COVID-19 vaccination programme is designed to be inclusive and that no-one is left behind, in order to protect individuals and the wider population of Scotland. The Plan also looks ahead to operationalising recent advice from the JCVI on vaccination of those under 18 years old, and the potential COVID-19 booster vaccination programme this autumn.
We continue to monitor the vaccination programme and will keep under review if and when a further update to the COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Plan is required.

To ask the Scottish Government what proportion of the plastic that was collected for recycling in each of the last five years was subsequently recycled.
Answer
We do not hold the data centrally to accurately report the proportion of plastics collected for recycling that are recycled.
Data on the materials processed at Materials Recovery Facilities, from sampling undertaken by SEPA, is available here:
We are continuing to work with local authorities to support high quality recycling, and taking steps to improve the quality of waste data. We are working with the UK Government, other devolved governments, and agencies such as SEPA, to develop and implement an electronic waste tracking system.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it has carried out a feasibility study on building a new plastic recycling plant.
Answer
As set out in our Programme for Government in 2020, we are working with local authorities, the deposit return scheme administrator and potential investors to explore options that will unlock reprocessing investments and to ensure that we manage more of our own waste within Scotland. This has included an assessment of volumes of materials, including plastics, collected for recycling.

To ask the Scottish Government with what frequency audits of the cervical screening programme are carried out, and in which years prior to 2020 audits have been carried out.
Answer
Invasive cervical cancer audits have been carried out annually by Health Boards for at least the last 20 years, although a new national methodology to standardise the information collected was introduced in 2014. These audits review the screening histories of people who develop invasive cervical cancer.

To ask the Scottish Government, since the new methodology for invasive cancer audits was produced in 2014, how many audits have been carried out, and of which services.
Answer
The following table shows the number of cases submitted for annual invasive cervical cancer audits in the years from 2014 until 2018, which are the years where full data is available. For the year 2019 five health boards have provided data and 129 cases were reported; in 2020, one health board submitted 16 cases. The audit schedule for the 2019 period was affected by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on services as staff were redeployed to Covid duties. A catch-up schedule has been put in place to audit 2019 cases at the same time as 2020 cases and these will be reviewed this year. It is important to note that the cases are assembled annually and reviewed by a multidisciplinary team within each Health Board.
Year | Cases |
2014 | 364 |
2015 | 337 |
2016 | 306 |
2017 | 275 |
2018 | 289 |
