  • Motion reference: S6M-18588

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) on its 60th anniversary in 2025; recognises the charity’s founding in 1965 in a classroom in Rutherglen by Monsignor John Rooney and John McKee, with the aim of responding to the call for global justice inspired by the Second Vatican Council; commends what it sees as SCIAF’s unwavering commitment over six decades to supporting people living in poverty, conflict and injustice in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities; acknowledges the charity’s work in delivering emergency humanitarian aid, promoting sustainable development, and advocating for systemic change, including its current campaign to cancel unjust global debt; celebrates SCIAF’s belief that a better world is possible, rooted in the values of dignity, solidarity and compassion; notes the Papal Blessing received from Pope Francis in recognition of SCIAF’s service to the world’s poor, and wishes SCIAF continued success in its mission to build a just world where all people can live life to the full.
