Hardgate and Springholm Primaries Gain Gold Sport Status

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 29 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17307

That the Parliament congratulates staff and pupils at Hardgate Primary School in Haugh of Urr, Castle Douglas, and Springholm Primary School on being awarded Gold School Sport Awards in recognition of their achievements in putting sport at the heart of their planning, practice and ethos; recognises that sportscotland’s scheme, funded by the National Lottery, is a national initiative designed to encourage schools to put young people at the heart of decision making, planning and implementation of extra-curricular school sport; acknowledges that it also encourages schools to self-reflect and continuously improve, recognise and celebrate successful school sport models, while the award also boosts sporting links between schools and the communities around them, providing opportunities for young people to progress; understands that the number of current Gold School Sport Awards in Galloway and West Dumfries now stands at a creditable five establishments, and wishes the new recipients continued success as they put the area firmly on the sporting map.
