Remembering Talwinder Rashpal Singh Bhai

That the Parliament notes with sadness the passing of Talwinder Rashpal Singh Bhai, daughter of Karnel Singh Landa and Lachmi Wanti and wife of the late Sewa Singh Bhai, a much loved matriarch of Edinburgh’s Sikh community; understands that, forced to move from their homeland just outside Lahore following the partition in 1947 of India, creating a new country Pakistan, her family were given refuge in a camp near Phagwara near Amritsar; notes that Rashpal was born on the 15 August 1947 in the midst of the partition; further notes that her family later settled in Ludhiana but then at the age of 10, Rashpal and her family migrated to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh; understands that, living in Edinburgh, her family grew with her becoming the eldest of 14 siblings; notes that in 1963, at the tender age of 16, Rashpal Singh’s wedding to Sewa Singh Bhai was one of the first Sikh weddings in Edinburgh in the first Gurdwara located in Hopefield Terrace; acknowledges Rashpal’s fulfilled life, being blessed with sons, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and extends its heartfelt condolences to two of the biggest Sikh families in Edinburgh, the Bhai and Landa families as well as the Edinburgh’s Sikh community on the loss of a dearly beloved and highly respected woman, Talwinder Rashpal Singh Bhai.
