That the Parliament congratulates Balerno Farmers Market, which is celebrating its 20th year in operation; understands that the market was originally set up in 2005 by the Balerno Conservation and Development Forum, transferring from a commercial operator to Balerno Village Trust in 2010; believes that the success of the market is due to the commitment of the team of community volunteers who oversee the setting-up and stewarding of the market and special events, which regularly run alongside the market; notes that the market is held on the second Saturday of the month, with regular stallholders, including Arran Cheese, Cedar Cottage Country Foods and Monarch Venison, which have been stall holders since 2005, being joined over the years by Bakery Andante, Soap Matters, The Dessert Diva, Edward Collins Fishmerchants, Pentland Hills Gin, Celtic Property Management, Balerno Honey, Slorach and Ma Roberts Tanzanian Food; further notes that the market also hosts themed events throughout the year including Tattie Day in Spring, which encourages people to grow potatoes, Apple Day in the Autumn, where local donated apples are pressed with the community apple press, Honey Bee day in the summer, which celebrates beekeeping and local honey, as well as the annual scarecrow competition in June; acknowledges that the Farmers Market was originally set up to revitalise the Main Street in Balerno but has now become a valued community meeting place, which attracts between 800 and 1,500 people each month; believes that this contributes to the efforts of Balerno Village Trust to make Balerno a better place to live, work and visit, and thanks everyone involved in the market's success over the past 20 years, with many more to come.
