  • Submitted by: Stephanie Callaghan, Uddingston and Bellshill, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17207

That the Parliament welcomes the opening of the Bellshill community garden site within Strathclyde Country Park; understands that the concept for the garden originated from the community council during the development of the Bellshill Gateway at Strathclyde Country Park; notes that members collaborated with the greenspace projects team and DWA Landscape Architects to design the garden, which features a variety of benches, planters, trees, wildflowers and solitary bee monoliths; recognises that the garden provides an attractive and welcoming space for the public to enjoy, while also enhancing local biodiversity; understands that the park was constructed with funding from the Local Development Programme, managed by the community partnership team, and that the construction was delivered by Candid Construction Scotland Ltd in partnership with the greenspace projects team; applauds the members of Bellshill Community Council and the council teams for their efforts in creating what is regarded as a valuable and vibrant garden space for the local community, and commends all involved in the development of what it sees as this inspiring project, which offers residents and visitors alike a place to sit, relax, and connect with the natural surroundings of the country park.
