To ask the Scottish Government how many diagnoses there were of (a) diabetes, (b) cancer or tumours, (c) hypertension, (d) stroke or (e) multiple sclerosis as a result of an eye check in the last year for which information is available.
Answer
The information requested is not collected.
The Eyecare Integration Project, which was announced in September 2010, aims to deliver 95% of patient referrals from optometrists to hospital eye services electronically by April 2014. The project鈥檚 success factors include reduced waiting times from referral to treatment, and more effective use of hospital eye service resources.
Once the Eyecare Integration Project is fully rolled-out and in place it may be possible to collect this type of data.

To ask the Scottish Executive when it will fulfil its commitments in Homes Fit for the 21st Century: The Scottish Government鈥檚 Strategy and Action Plan for Housing in the Next Decade: 2011-2020 to (a) introduce a further regulated standard for energy efficiency in social housing and (b) publish a strategy for sustainable housing.
Answer
Our draft Sustainable Housing Strategy, Homes that Don鈥檛 Cost the Earth, is published today for public consultation. The strategy will set out our vision for warm, high quality, affordable, low carbon homes and a housing sector that will help to establish a successful low carbon economy across Scotland. It will include further information on our proposals for a National Retrofit Programme to refurbish existing homes to make them more energy efficient. This programme will prioritise fuel poor areas while maximising the energy efficiency measures and funding opportunities available to all. I have also published proposals for consultation on a new Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing that builds on and goes beyond the energy efficiency element of the Scottish Housing Quality Standard. Taken together, the proposals in these consultation documents will help to achieve the step change in provision of energy efficient housing we promised in the Infrastructure Investment Plan and help us meet the challenging targets on fuel poverty and emissions set by the Scottish Parliament.
I have placed copies of the documents in the Scottish Parliament Information Centre:
Homes that don鈥檛 cost the earth: A consultation on Scotland鈥檚 Sustainable Housing Strategy (Bib. number 54045).
Developing an Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing: A Consultation (Bib. number 54047).
