Economy and Fair Work Committee

Disability Employment Gap

Meeting date: 5 June 2024

Claire Baker

There is a gap here while we are waiting. The project that I referred to ran for a few years. People liked it and thought that it was positive. We are evaluating it but, while we are evaluating it, there is no equivalent fund or support available.

I will perhaps leave this next issue to Gordon MacDonald, as it is covered in the report as a recommendation on job coaches.

Subordinate Legislation

Meeting date: 5 June 2024

Claire Baker

The membership of the standing committee, which Maggie Chapman has referred to, is not public. We have managed to establish that on it there are 10 creditor representatives, four insolvency practitioners, two regulatory bodies and two advice sector bodies, so it is weighted towards the interests of creditors. Can the minister exert some influence so that we can find out what its membership is? That has been difficult to find out.

Okay. Thank you.

There are no more questions. That brings us to agenda item 9, which is formal consideration of the motion to approve the instrument. I invite the minister to move motion S6M-13108.

Motion moved,

That the Economy and Fair Work Committee recommends that the Protected Trust Deeds (Miscellaneous Amendment) (Scotland) Regulations 2024 [draft] be approved.鈥擺Ivan McKee.]

Motion agreed to.

Given the tight timescales involved, I invite the committee to delegate responsibility to me, as convener, to sign off the report. Do members agree to that?

Members indicated agreement.

Scottish Government Priorities

Meeting date: 29 May 2024

Claire Baker

We will not get into the area of multiyear budgets, which is one that the committee argues about quite a lot. We will move on to questions from Gordon MacDonald.

We will soon have our work programme discussions, during which we will consider that.

I thank the cabinet secretary and her officials for their evidence. That concludes the public part of the meeting.

Decision on Taking Business in Private

Meeting date: 29 May 2024

Claire Baker

Good morning, and welcome to the 17th meeting in 2024 of the Economy and Fair Work Committee. I have received apologies from Evelyn Tweed. Bob Doris is here as a substitute.

Our first item of business is a decision on whether to take items 9 and 10 in private, although members will note that a change has been made to the agenda. Are members content to take those items in private?

Members indicated agreement.

Following a request that I received yesterday from Tom Arthur, the Minister for Employment and Investment, I have agreed to defer consideration of the five tied pubs draft regulations and orders that were originally listed on today鈥檚 agenda until next week, so items 3 to 8 will now be taken at next week鈥檚 meeting.
