Meeting date: 24 May 2022

Ariane Burgess

Amendment 2, in the name of the minister, is grouped with amendment 3.

Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee

European Union Exit: Impact on Rural Affairs and Islands Remit

Meeting date: 18 May 2022

Ariane Burgess

Good morning, Mr Eustice. You have said that there will be more freedom for Scotland and that our committee has an important scrutiny role. The Scotland Act 1998 clearly states that protecting Scotland鈥檚 environment is a devolved matter and a core responsibility of the Scottish Government, yet your Government鈥檚 United Kingdom Internal Market Act 2020 has repeatedly prevented this Parliament and its committees from doing their job to protect our environment, from approving the introduction of GM crops to the UK market and from implementing a ban on plastic wet wipes. The 2020 act has allowed you to overrule us repeatedly. Why does your Government have such a blatant disregard for devolution?

Meeting date: 17 May 2022

Ariane Burgess

Thank you. That is such a stark example. You talked about tender costs being way in excess of your assumptions. Do you have a sense of where those costs are coming from?

Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee

Subordinate Legislation

Meeting date: 17 May 2022

Ariane Burgess

What is the Scottish Government doing to support training of surveyors and fire safety assessors to ensure that there is a sufficient pool of qualified staff to deliver the single building assessment programme within a reasonable timescale?

Thank you for that insight. That is really useful.

Donna Birrell, do you have anything that you want us to hear, or have we heard it all?

Donna Birrell would like to come in.

I have a question for Mark Rodgers. Would it help if the Scottish Government considered placing a factory in the Highland area for scaling up with modern methods of construction?
