  • most environmental policy

Future business

The Committee considers its work programme regularly to maintain a rolling programme of business. The Committee's main business over coming months will include: 

Carbon budgets

In September, the Committee expects to take evidence over three meetings on the and the that goes with them. The Committee must report to Parliament on the regulations by 1 October. 

If they are approved, the Committee will lead a cross-committee effort to scrutinise the draft Climate Change Plan.

Ecocide (Scotland) Bill

The Committee will undertake scrutiny of the Bill at Stage 1 (consideration of the general principles). The Committee will take oral evidence at one meeting in September. It will also consider an analysis of responses to its , which closes on 9 September, before deciding what other Stage 1 scrutiny to undertake.   

PE2123 Petition on Air Quality

The Committee expects to reconsider this petition at a meeting in early autumn. 

 

Legislative Consent Memorandum on the UK Sustainable Aviation Fuel Bill

The Committee expects to scrutinise and report to Parliament on a Legislative Consent Memorandum from the Scottish Government after the summer recess.  

Other business

The Committee expects to use remaining meeting time before dissolution in March 2026 to scrutinise current issues relating to transport, energy, the circular economy, and environmental protection and regulation. Where possible, it will also continue to have annual “check-in” evidence sessions with autonomous public bodies with regulatory roles in these areas. (Check the Committee’s “current business” tabs for more information on all areas where the Committee maintains a watching brief.) There’s also a possibility of other Legislative Consent Memorandums, or supplementary LCMs, on UK Bills being referred to the Committee in the coming months
